www.militarysupport.ca 187 Hell’s Corner at Villons-les-Buissons commemorates the 9th Bde (North Nova Scotia Highlander’s, Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Highlanders, and the Highland Light Infantry) with an additional Glen’s plaque below. The Canadian 9th Bde advanced further inland than any other allied formation. On the morning of the 7th, they resumed their advance to take their D-Day objective, the Oak Line, and establish fortress positions to await the expected German armoured counterattack. The vanguard of the 9th encountered heavy opposition from the 25th Panzer Grenadier Regiment (12th SS Hitler Youth Division). Outnumbered, the Canadians suffered heavy losses but stopped any German breakthrough in this area. By nightfall, the 9th Bde. Was back at Villons-les-Buissons where the Glen’s had dug in and held firm repelling all German advances. Once a site of regular commemorations by the Glen’s it is rarely visited anymore.
